Arizona players play well at MPGT Tour Championship

Ten players from the local Arizona chapter of the Medal Play Golf Tour made the journey to Temecula Creek Inn in Temecula, CA for the 2012 Tour Championship September 8-9. Players were treated to near perfect weather, great course conditions, good competition and a great test of golf to end the season.

Bob Dillon (Scottsdale, AZ) came from 4 shots back after the first day to overtake Shane Rutherford (Glendora, CA) by a single shot to claim the Championship Division. Joe White (Glendale, AZ) placed 4th.

The Gold Division saw Steve Swan (Surprise, AZ) play some steady golf to overtake day 1 leader Michael Rivera (Murrieta, CA) for the victory.  Dennis Kindred (Phoenix, AZ) placed 4th, Carl Thackeray (Mesa, AZ) 8th, Colin English (Phoenix, AZ) 10th, Andre Fitzpatrick (Avondale, AZ) 15th.

The Silver Division was claimed by Steve Challenger (Ridgefield, CA). Local player Matt Horner (Glendale, AZ) placed 2nd, Jerry Boysen (Peoria, AZ) 3rd, Al Mayhew (Avondale, AZ) 7th.

“I am really proud of the way the Arizona players competed,” said tour director Blane Freytag. “The course conditions in Temecula were quite different from what they were used to however they adjusted pretty quick and represented the local tour well” he added. “The event was a huge success!” 

Play resumes with the start of the Winter Series November 18th at Tatum Ranch Golf Club in Cave Creek, Arizona.
