Pro-Turf International beats the clock with bunkers renovation at Superstition Springs Golf Club

Superstition Springs Golf Club is not unlike the majority of golf courses around the country when it comes to budgeting for golf course maintenance and upgrades. The majority of the money goes to keeping the greens, fairways and tee boxes in tip-top condition.

Bunkers generally go overlooked. But, eventually the time comes when refurbishing is a must. And for Superstition Springs, that time came this past summer.

FORE Golf Management called on Pro Turf International, Inc., to refurbish over 60 bunkers on Superstition Springs, located near Phoenix. The challenge was the clock. They had to complete the project during overseeding.

PTI faced another challenge. Over the years, the amount of sand had built up from general maintenance. There was too much sand in most of the bunkers.

“They shelled them all out and brought them back to the original contours,” said Mike MacDonald, Golf Course Superintendent. “They cleaned out all the original drainage. Since the work was completed we have had no drainage issues.”

“Pro Turf did a great job; they were awesome,” said General Manager Seth Tucker. “The customers love it, and the bunkers look great.”

This was another in a series of renovation projects completed in the Phoenix area by Pro Turf International for FORE Golf. For more information about PTI, visit www.pro-turf-intl.com/, or call 877.421.1223.
