Las Sendas Golf Club announces two new additions to team, Jeff Sorkness and Mike Malaska

Jeff Sorkness has taken the position of PGA Director of Golf for Las Sendas Golf Club.  Jeff comes from the Talking Stick Resort where he held the same position for the past 11 years.  Jeff has worked for Troon Golf for the past 18 years in both Colorado and Arizona. Jeff’s past experience, management, communications and organizational skills will be an asset in his new position.

Mike Malaska has joined Las Sendas as Director of Instruction. Mike’s philosophy and knowledge of the golf swing, as well as his expertise at incorporating physical fitness programs into his golf instruction, has made him one of the most sought after instructors in the game today.  He will lead the Las Sendas Golf Academy current staff of PGA and LPGA instructors by developing programs for all levels of golfers.

Mike’s career has spanned over 38 years of instruction and playing experience and has received the highest honor of “PGA National Teacher of The Year” in 2011. Most recently, he has been awarded a spot on the “2013 Edwin Watts Golf Top Teacher’s in America” list, and on the “2012 GRAA Top 50 Growth of the Game Teaching Professional.” Mike was also named “2011 Senior Player of the Year” and “2010 Teacher of the Year” for the PGA Southwest Section. Since 2000, Mike has ranked among Golf Digest’s “America’s 50 Greatest Teachers,” and currently is listed as #24 in the nation. Mike has also been selected as one of Golf Magazine’s “Top 100 Teachers” in America since 1995.

Currently the Director of Instruction for Nicklaus Academies Worldwide, Mike instructs the teachers at each of the centers around the globe.  He has also served as a consultant to TaylorMade/Adidas worldwide since 2002. Mike has appeared numerous times on The Golf Channel as a guest instructor and in 2004, he produced his own DVD, ‘You Are Your Own Swing’, featuring 2 ½ hours of golf and fitness instruction.

Malaska’s philosophy is simple, “There is no individual that is willing to practice, no matter what their physical limitations are, that I cannot teach to achieve their highest potential in the game of golf.”

Las Sendas Golf Club was designed by Robert Trent Jones, Jr. and opened for public play in February of 1995. Acquired in late 2009, by a team who has vast experience in developing and managing golf clubs, over $9 million dollars have been invested to raise the club status to its current position. Las Sendas Golf Club was named “Best Golf Course 2013”.  This recognition was voted on by the residents of the East Valley and issued by The East Valley Tribune
