Arizona Women’s Golf Association recognizes 2009 Award winners

AWG 2009 Award WinnersThe Arizona Women’s Golf Association conducted their annual business meeting and presented awards at their Annual Meeting and Recognition Dinner on January 27, 2010 at Moon Valley Country Club.

AWGA members from all over the state attended this highly anticipated event. Kathy Ehrlich, in her second term as President of the AWGA Board of Directors, was emcee for the evening. Also present to celebrate with the winners were members of allied golf associations, AWGA partners, and guests.
2009 Award Winners:

Player of the Year:  Thuhashini Selvaratnam has won this prestigious award for nine straight years. Her skill and consistent game have made her a legend in the Arizona women’s amateur golf community. Tui was a member of the 2009 Arizona State Team. Under her leadership as Assistant Golf Coach for Xavier College Preparatory High School, Xavier’s team finished 2009 undefeated for the 4th consecutive year!

Senior Player of the Year:  Judy Miller, member of Randolph North in Tucson, received this same award in 2007. She ended 2009 with numerous victories in AWGA and local events. With a single digit handicap under 5, she won four AWGA tournaments as well as the SAWA title and Randolph North Club Championship in addition to qualifying for several USGA championships.

Volunteer of the Year:  Susan Browning, an avid golfer and freelance graphic designer, is a member of four women’s golf leagues and was instrumental in the 2009 redesign, printing and distribution of the AWGA NewsLinks newsletter. She also made significant contributions to the website, directory and printed materials for the AWGA Annual Giving Campaign.

AWGA Representative of the Year:  Sandy Keith, a strong supporter of the AWGA, is an active member of Painted Mountain GC and is a frequent volunteer at AWGA and other local tournaments. Her energy, helpful nature, attention to detail and ability to consistently keep her women’s group informed are the perfect combination to make a successful AWGA Representative.

Host Club of the Year: Superstition Mountain Country Club hosted the AWGA Season Opener and received the highest praise from players for the condition of the course and their unmatched customer service. Drew Darrow, PGA Tournament Director, rolled out the red carpet to make the event a memorable experience for all AWGA players. They will be hosting the same event this year.

Honorable Mention: Turquoise Valley GC showed AWGA members who played in the Partners Tournament an event filled with the friendly southern hospitality of Naco along with a challenging course in perfect condition.
