Rocky Mountain Junior Golf Tour made its’ fifth annual stop at ASU’s Karsten course

Tightest race of the entire tournament was in the Boys 15-19 division

Arizona swept the field of 46 boys from many states throughout the region. Players knew that several college coaches were in attendance to see how they performed in adverse conditions on the challenging ASU Karsten course. The top ten finishers all had the ability to win but it was local player Eric Ghim who met the challenge. Eric Ghim from Glendale, AZ won a 1 hole playoff by sinking a 15 foot putt from off the green on #1 to earn his first win on the tour. Ghim and  longtime member Jackson Whisenhunt who resides in Phoenix were tied going to the 37th hole with 144. Jackson settles for 2nd place and Nick Martinka from Phoenix is 3rd.
 
The Girls 15-19 division was won by Maple Grove, Minnesota player Sarah Burnham. She carded a 70/72 and finished ten strokes lower than her closest competitor. Burnham is joined by Anna-Grace Lavy from Fayetteville, Arkansas who  took 2nd and a playoff decided the 3rd position. Shelby Turner from Deming, NM took the tie to the fourth tie breaker over Scottsdale’s Ashley Lonergan.

The top three finishers in each of the divisions qualified to compete in the 2013 Tournament of Champions which takes place December 27-28 at McCormick Ranch Golf Club in Scottsdale, AZ. 150+ players from 25 states and Canada will compete to identify the 2013 champion in Boys 15-19, Boys 13-14, Boys 10-12, Girls 15-19 and U14 Girls division.
