Kevin Tway receives sponsor exemption to 2014 Waste Management Phoenix Open

2014 Waste Management Phoenix Open Tournament Chairman Tom King announced that Kevin Tway will receive the first of five sponsor exemptions for the 2014 Waste Management Phoenix Open, scheduled to be played January 27 – February 2 at TPC Scottsdale.

“We’re excited to have Kevin play in the 2014 Waste Management Phoenix Open,” King said. “He’s a great young player worth keeping an eye on and if his father’s career is any indication of what’s to come, Kevin is going to have a long, successful career on the PGA TOUR.”

The 25-year-old is the son of eight-time PGA TOUR winner Bob Tway and turned pro in 2011 after graduating from Oklahoma State. He made his PGA TOUR debut at the 2011 Travelers Championship. Tway played the 2013 season on the Web.com Tour and picked up his first win in July at the Albertsons Boise Open shooting a tournament record 261 (23-under-par). He finished fifth on the 2013 Web.com Tour regular season money list and earned his 2014 PGA TOUR card.

While at Oklahoma State, Tway won the NCAA Central Regional and was named honorable mention All-American, first-team All-Big 12 and was selected to the All-Central Region Squad as a freshman. During his junior golf years, Tway won the 2005 U.S. Junior Amateur and advanced to the semifinals the following year before being named The Oklahoman’s All-City Player of the Year in 2006 and 2007.

King and The Thunderbirds have a total of five exemptions to hand out for the 2014 Waste Management Phoenix Open. The remaining four exemptions will be announced in the coming weeks leading up to the tournament.
