24th Annual TAPS Memorial Golf Tournament

The 24th Annual TAPS Memorial Golf Tournament (formerly known as Briggs-Scott), benefiting Tuition Assistance for Police Survivors (TAPS) to be held at Wigwam Resort & Spa on Saturday April 12th, 2014. This year’s tournament offers golfers the experience to play one of two courses designed by Robert Trent Jones, and challenge the green sizes with a variety of elevation changes and the amenities of a full service resort.

For the past 23 years this event has been held in memory of City of Phoenix Police Motor Officers Pat Briggs and Wayne Scott who lost their lives under similar circumstances while in the performance of their duties. Last year the name was changed in honor of all Phoenix Officers lost in the line of duty. Since its inception in 1990, the TAPS program has disbursed over $365,000 providing post-secondary education tuition, books and computer reimbursement to eligible survivors of officers who have died as a result of NON-LINE-of-duty deaths.

TAPS is a charitable organization and received a non-profit charity designator from the IRS per its regulation, 501(c)(3), organization – #86-0764842. Therefore, your contribution is tax deductible to the full extent of the law. Unlike most tuition programs, TAPS is for reimbursement of expenses. The eligible survivor must first get into college, stay in school and achieve a passing grade. Only then can they apply for financial reimbursement from TAPS. Everyone who works on the TAPS program is a volunteer. Through those efforts, 100% of all the money raised in the name of TAPS goes directly to the tuition reimbursement. The Phoenix Law Enforcement Association (PLEA) does its part by administering the program and underwriting all of TAPS administrative costs.

Being that this is a charitable event, the assistance of corporate sponsors is needed to help with the expenses to make the event a success. Major sponsor opportunities provide the greatest help for a successful event, which ultimately benefits the TAPS Charity.
