The Country Club at DC Ranch to undergo major restoration

One of the pre-eminent private clubs in the Southwest, The Country Club at DC Ranch has begun a major restoration of its clubhouse and golf course. With a keen sensitivity towards the Club’s classic heritage, highly-acclaimed PHX Architecture is coordinating the nearly $4 million project, working collaboratively with SB Design of Phoenix and Wespac Construction. Total restoration is set to be completed by early November, 2014.

What began in the early 1900’s as a desert cattle ranch, the nearly 20-year-old DC Ranch has developed into one of the finest communities in the United States. With breathtaking views of the Sonoran desert and McDowell Mountains, The Country Club of DC Ranch has always embodied a rustic elegance and charming aesthetic reminiscent of the great western haciendas built at the turn of the last century. Now, with an active membership that spans three generations, the Club is expanding and adding larger gathering areas that broaden the entire dining and entertainment experience.

A complete re-design of the dining and social area will provide more engaging food and beverage options and improved flexibility to create special events and other social occasions. The showpiece of the redesigned Club is a stunning u-shaped bar lounge. With increased seating around the member-friendly focal point, grabbing a drink after a round of golf or enjoying a signature cocktail or award-winning wine with dinner service will offer immeasurable opportunities for the fun, family and friendliness for which the Club is nationally known.

“The Country Club at DC Ranch has some of the most breathtaking views in the Valley,” said Erik Peterson, principal of PHX Architecture. “The dining room has historically overlooked the 18th fairway and the McDowell Mountains. While that remains, we have opened up much of the dining experience to face south, enabling us to capture the elevation change and nighttime city lights. And by adding bi-folding doors opening up to the gorgeous patio areas, we are bringing the indoors out and the outdoors in. It’s a magnificent setting.”

Culinary expectations have always been of the highest order at The Country Club at DC Ranch as Executive Chef Lenard Rubin masterfully creates exceptional menu selections executed by his experienced kitchen team. Honored as the prestigious 2013 Chef of the Year by the American Culinary Federation Chef’s Association of Arizona, Chef Rubin has woven his culinary prowess into an art form, beloved by members and guests alike.

Initially developed by Scott Miller Design, the magnificent golf course at The Country Club at DC Ranch was re-designed in 2002 by the Tom Lehman-John Fought tandem and has drawn rave reviews since then. The current update of the Par 71, 6,888 yard layout includes a greenside bunker renovation project. “These improvements will further raise the stature of our golf course, providing our members and their guests with an unsurpassed round of golf,” said Dick Hyland, director of golf at The Country Club at DC Ranch. “Our bunkers throughout the course will be in pristine shape and will be able to recover quicker to perfect playing conditions after any inclement weather.”

The golf course is closed for construction and will reopen at the end of July.

Starting July 21, the six tennis courts at DC Ranch will be reconditioned in the US Open (USTA) blue surface color providing players with better sight lines and enhanced play. Five of the Club’s tennis courts will be lit for nighttime action as well. Additionally, a pro shop and snack bar will be added later this fall.
