RJ Wood of Scottsdale, Arizona, captured the 71st Arizona Open title after a sudden-death playoff with defending champion Chris Satterlee (Phoenix, AZ) and Matt Bryant (Columbia, SC) at the private Troon Country Club in Scottsdale, Arizona. The 54 hole, stroke play event was conducted August 20-22, 2015 and is one of the premier events on the Southwest Section PGA playing schedule.
Wood shot rounds of 70-65-71 (206) to get himself in the playoff. His victory earned him the coveted title and a first place purse of $7500.
Low amateur title went to Sam Triplett, son of PGA Tour veteran and Scottsdale resident, Kirk Triplett. Triplett, who is a sophomore at Northwestern University and a recent graduate of Brophy College Prep (2014), finished with an even-par 210 (70-69-71) to claim low amateur honors.
Other notables in the field included former PGA Tour players RW Eaks and Jim Carter. The latter of which shot 67-70-72 (209) to finish tied for 5th place.
