JGAA hosts 2016 IHop Spring Stableford

The JGAA hosted the IHop Spring Stableford junior golf tournament April 24 at Scottsdale’s Talking Stick Golf Club and Paradise Valley Golf Course in Phoenix. The tournament used a Modified Stableford scoring system that awards points based on a player’s score on each hole. In this system, the highest score wins.

or Hole-in-one +6 points
2 Under Par:  Eagle +4 points
1 Under Par: Birdie +3 points
Par +2 points
1 Over Par: Bogey +1 point
Any score 2 over par or higher 0 points

More than 90 juniors participated with boys and girls age 13-18 playing 18 holes at Talking Stick Golf Club. And, at Paradise Valley Golf Course, boys and girls 11-12 played 18 holes, and boys and girls 10 and under played 9 holes.

In the Boys Championship Division, Noah Swartz of Glendale, AZ topped Trey Sendler of Mesa, AZ by one point with 29. Justin Fischer of Rio Rico, AZ (31) won in a playoff over Samuel Weinstein of Scottsdale, AZ in the Boys 15-18 Division. Ethan Adam of Chandler, AZ (38 points) won in the Boys 13-14 Division. Maximilian Ngov of Peoria, AZ edged out two players in a playoff to win in the Boys 11-12 Division with 29 points, and Derick Pedrosa from Goodyear, AZ won the Boys 10 and Under Division with 15 points.

In the Girls Championship Division, Ashley Menne of Surprise, AZ won in a playoff over last year’s champion Jenny Bae of Chandler, AZ. Both finished regulation play at 32 points. Sarah Hameed of Gilbert, AZ won in a playoff over Hanna Browder of Blyth, CA in the Girls 15-18 Division with 27 points. Madeleine Laux of Goodyear won the Girls 13-14 Division with 34 points. Madeline Adam of Chandler won the Girls 11-12 Division with 27 points, and Brooke McGlasson won in the Girls 10 and Under Division with 14 points.

The Junior Golf Association of Arizona is a 501(c)(3) organization with the mission to educate, motivate and inspire Arizona’s youth through golf and all of the valuable lessons and life skills inherent to the game.  In addition to hosting competitive events, the JGAA develops programs for local schools, assists golf courses with their junior programs, conducts college prep seminars and etiquette clinics.
