Play for Pink logoTerravita’s women golfers, women tennis players and many residents joined forces to raise nearly $10,000 for breast cancer research in early March, in an effort to help the more than 200,000 women in the U.S. who will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer this year.

“This year we raised money through golf and tennis tournament fees, plus the increasingly popular P.I.N.K. Wall of Tribute” said Terravita 2010 Play for P.I.N.K. committee chair Barbara Strickland.

This is the 10th year Terravita has raised money for breast cancer research and it is the fifth year the community has sponsored a Play for P.I.N.K. fundraising event.

Over the past ten years, nearly $70,000 has been raised by Terravita for breast cancer research with almost 15% of those monies coming from the 2010 campaign.

The Terravita Women’s Golf Association (TWGA) invited all members of the Terravita community to participate by honoring family members or friends with a decorative pink card that included a personal tribute for a minimum $25 donation. A record-setting 170 cards were displayed on the P.I.N.K. Wall of Tribute, with donations coming from throughout the community.

Additional monies were raised by the Play for P.I.N.K.  golf tournament fees from a field of more than 100 women 9- and 18-hole golfers who played in the fundraising event. A reception followed the golf tournament, which included hors d’ouerves provided for a nominal per-person fee by M Catering, and was open to anyone who made a donation to the fundraiser.

The following day the women’s tennis group also participated in a tournament, with the registration fees contributing to the overall fundraising effort.
