Encanterra Country Club Hits 1,000th Member Family

The Encanterra team celebrate their 1000th Member Family!

Earlier this spring, Encanterra Country Club – the Tom Lehman-designed country club in the southeast Valley perhaps best known for its Bing Hu-designed 60,000 square foot Mediterranean-style clubhouse – reached a milestone that few private clubs anywhere hit. In a small ceremony involving the requisite champagne toast, Encanterra welcomed Cheryl Boer, the club’s 1,000th Member.

“We’re obviously very excited,” said Rob Cowan, club general manager. “This is an important milestone, but what’s important in this business is not how big you are, but how good you are.” Cowan knows how to be both, as he previously oversaw perhaps one of the few clubs with a larger membership than Encanterra, the prestigious Four Seasons Golf & Sports Club at Las Colinas in Dallas, Texas which is home to 1,600 member families.

Of the 1,000+ members at Encanterra, about 350 have golf access, while the other 650+ are able to utilize the restaurants, pools, tennis, Pickleball, bocce, art, and other facilities offered within the club’s two activity buildings: the original “La Casa” and the recently added “Algarve”.

Set on a 2.5 acre, view-laden parcel in the Southwestern portion of the community, The Algarve is an 8,000 square foot club complete with a resort pool, artisan studio, expansive open lawns including an indoor and outdoor concert area, eight pickleball courts, bocce ball, and “Tapas,” our poolside dining concept.

The draw of Encanterra is in much more than it’s building though.

“We are fortunate to have amazing facilities, but that’s only part of why people love it here,” says Cowan. “Every day we see people make new friends, try new things, and just generally make an effort to enjoy life. That positive energy is contagious.”

“Our golf events calendar is always full,” says Cowan. “With Ladies’ Day on Tuesdays, Men’s Day on Wednesdays, a ladies nine-hole group on Thursday, an independent men’s game on Fridays, and couples’ games on Sundays. Of course, this is in addition to our four ‘Majors’ - Member-Member, Club Championship, Encanterra Cup (U.S. vs. Canada), and Carnivale (our Member-Guest). And, the great thing is that our Members like to play quickly. Our average round time is under 4 hours. Some walk, in fact, about half of our Members do every day.”

Set with panoramic views of the Superstition and San Tan mountains, the core layout folds the course inwards, away from residences and all distractions.  In this way, a heightened golf experience becomes the sole focus. Though it’s multiple tees and generous fairways make it accessible to members of all skill levels, Encanterra’s golf course is more than capable of challenging the game’s best players. To score well requires careful evaluation of risk, club selection, and using the nuances of each hole to your advantage.

The quick pace of play is perhaps a happy by-product of the lively social calendar maintained by the club’s Lifestyle Director, Brent Seymoure. “Encanterra truly offers members an unmatched lifestyle. Many of our Members are more active now than they were in their working life!” says Seymoure. “You’ll see Members enjoying dinner at the club multiple times per week with friends, taking part in our fitness programming and of course loving the many special events that we have planned”.

Having welcomed over 5500 festival goers to Trilogy’s The Good Life Festival featuring Kenny Loggins and Michael McDonald in April, the month of May is set to showcase plenty more! Think a dueling piano bar night, cooking demonstrations, live mariachi music on Cinco de Mayo, farmers’ markets, whisky dinners and a number of offsite adventures.

Encanterra’s vibrant, growing community ensures friendship among members comes easily and naturally. With 1,000 members down, the team at Encanterra can hardly afford to rest. There are still more than 1,000 more homes planned in the community – all of whom will become members – which means that a few years from now, they’ll be celebrating member number 2,000.
