ASU Karsten, Papago post Top-6 finishes at OB Sports National Team Championships in Las Vegas

Invited guests representing Tempe’s ASU Karsten Golf Course and Phoenix’s Papago Golf Course each posted Top-6 finishes at the 2017 OB Sports National Team Championship, held November 11-12 at Angel Park Golf Club in Las Vegas. Posting eight-man scores of 421 and 422, respectively, fifth-place ASU Karsten and sixth-place Papago finished well behind hosts Angel Park, who won the event with a score of 403, 16 shots better than second place.

“As an Arizona resident, I’m glad to see a couple of the local clubs representing near the top of the leaderboard,” said Brian Benitz, OB Sports Director of Course Relations. “One of Pinewood Country Club’s three teams also finished in the Top 10, so all-in-all it was a great showing for The Grand Canyon State.”

A total of 21 teams from OB Sports-managed clubs in Arizona, California, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon and Texas made up this year’s field. Each facility hosted multiple qualifying events throughout the year, nicknamed “The Road to Sin City,” with the top finishers earning an invitation to represent the Club in the National Championship.

“I couldn’t be prouder of Team Papago’s solid finish,” said Daryl Crawford, General Manager of Papago Golf Course. “Rob Hartmann, our lead assistant, and the seven members of the Papago Men’s Club played great golf. We’re already setting goals for a Top 5 next year!”

The last of three OB Sports Signature Events in the calendar year, the National Team Championship was presented by TravisMathew, Titleist and Flags4Golf. The next Signature Event is scheduled for July’s Nike Pro Scratch, also at Angel Park. Then in October, Tetherow Golf Club in Bend, Ore., will host the 2018 OB Cup for Private Clubs, which makes its return following a three-year hiatus.
