Tucson’s Jarrod Johnson wins Tucson Conquistardores Spring Classic

Tucson’s Mackenzie McRee wins in Girls 13-14 Division, fresh from her appearance at Augusta National for the Drive, Chip and Putt Championship

Jarrod Johnson, 16, of Marana, AZ, took top honors with a 4-under-par performance (66-73—139) in the Boys Championship Division at the Tucson Conquistadores Spring Classic, held April 21-22. Johnson started out red-hot in the first round at Silverbell Golf Course with four birdies in the first seven holes en route to a 4-under 66, one stroke off the pace. He then sailed to victory the next day on Tucson National Resort’s Catalina Course edging out two players by two strokes who finished tied for second place at 2-under-par 141: Kohl Kuebler of Gilbert (69-72) and Jacob Goode of Tucson (68-73). 

In the Girls Championship Division, Madeleine Laux of Goodyear fired a 2-over-par 145 (72-73) to win by two strokes over three players who tied for second place at 4-over-par 147: Millburn Ho of Scottsdale (72-75); Panchalika Arphamongkol of Bangkok, Thailand (72-75); and Brooke Veres of Goodyear (70-77).

In addition to the Championship Divisions, Colin Jasper of Scottsdale won the Boys 15-18 Division at 2-over par, 67-78—145; Anawin Pikulthong of Gilbert won the Boys 13-14 Division at even par (70-73—143); Oliver Corwon of Sahuarita won the Boys 11-12 Division at 8-over par (38-41—79); and Gavin Ly of Goodyear won the Boys 10 and Under Division at 1-over par (35-37—72). 

On the Girls Divisions, Leah Skaar of Gold Canyon won the Girls 15-18 Division at 12-over par (79-76—155); Mackenzie McRee of Tucson won the Girls 13-14 Division at 6-over par (74-75—149); Ailis Tribolet of Chandler took the Girls 11-12 Division at 7-over par (39-39—78); and Alexis Lamadrid of Phoenix won in the Girls 10 and Under Division 16-over par (43-44—87).
