Arizona Golf Association announces 2018 Champion of Golf recipient

The Arizona Golf Association is pleased to announce the 2018 Champion of Golf recipient as John Spensieri of Phoenix Country Club. The Champion of Golf is an annual award that recognizes those who support the game of golf through community and charitable activities without public exposure. The award will be presented to Spensieri at the 2018 Arizona Golf Hall of Fame induction ceremony held on Tuesday, November 20, 2018. Call 602.944.3035 for more information and tickets to the ceremony.

John was not always a golfer, but after swinging his first club in 1990, he was captured by golf’s addictive appeal and never looked back. As a member of Phoenix Country Club since 2005, John spearheaded the club’s development of History Week, which celebrates the rich history of the Phoenix Open when it was hosted over 40 times between 1932-1986 at the Phoenix Country Club. During History Week, past Phoenix Open champions like Miller Barber, Tom Purtzer and Kenny Venturi were welcomed with a dinner and a pro-am to celebrate their historical wins at PCC.

On top of the immense success of History Week, John played an instrumental role in bringing the Goldwater Cup back to Phoenix Country Club while also helping to secure the club’s 10-year contract to host the Charles Schwab Cup Championship. John has served on countless committees within PCC and currently serves on the Board of Directors. John also supports the PCC Foundation’s involvement with organizations like Elevate Phoenix that gives back to at risk children around Phoenix. He finds great joy in bringing meaningful events to the members of Phoenix Country Club and the golf community of Arizona.
