Judy Miller, 2009 AWGA Senior Player of the Year, and her partner, Ed Gowan, Executive Director of the AGA, won the 2010 Mixed Stix Tournament at Tubac Golf Resort & Spa which was played on July 31st and August 1st. As defending Champions with a score of 131 in 2009, Miller and Gowan captured the title of Overall Champions once more. Their combined scores of 68 and 67 brought them to their winning two-day score of 135.
Overall Net Champions were Kristi and John Reckard of Torreon Golf Club in Show Low whose two-day score was 141.
The tournament began on a course that was drenched from three inches of rainfall the night before. Players were required to observe a cart path only rule and the lift, clean and place rule on a few holes. Officials declared some of the bunkers as through the green so that relief could be taken out of the bunker from the casual water inside it without penalty.
Improved course conditions and cooperation from Mother Nature made Sunday’s play much more enjoyable. Under the circumstances, the final scores were competitive and demonstrated the skill of the players under even the most challenging conditions.
Congratulations to Judy Miller and Ed Gowan, 2010 Mixed Stix Champions!
