Arizona Governor, Jan Brewer, met with four junior golfers from The First Tee of Phoenix in early September to recognize their recent participation in the Home Care & Hospice First Tee Open at Pebble Beach, an official Champions Tour event held over Labor Day weekend and televised nationally on the Golf Channel. Chris Petefish of Scottsdale (finished tied for 12th), Blake Toolan of Phoenix (T18), Anthony Quezada of Phoenix (T53) and Mikey McGilton of Chandler (T58) were accompanied by the First Tee of Phoenix Executive Director, Hugh Smith and The Thunderbirds (principal sponsor of the First Tee of Phoenix) Big Chief, David Rauch. Governor Brewer personally congratulated the foursome on their recent accomplishment and took time to commemorate the occasion by taking photos with the junior golfers.

Seventy-eight junior golfers from various First Tee chapters throughout the U.S. were selected to play in the tournament. In its seventh year, this unique event featured junior golfers and amateurs competing side-by-side with Champions Tour players at renowned Pebble Beach Golf Links and Del Monte Golf Course. It served as a showcase for The First Tee, an organization dedicated to impacting the lives of young people by providing learning facilities and educational programs that promote character development and life-enhancing values through the game of golf.

“On behalf of The Thunderbirds, I’d like to congratulate Blake, Anthony, Mikey and Chris for their outstanding performances at the event, said David Rauch. “It takes a lot of composure to play in a tournament of that caliber: well done!”
