ASU Karsten is the place in Arizona where champions are made right in the shadows of Sun Devil Stadium.

With 159 Collegiate Golf All Americans; 13 NCAA Individual Champions; 12 U.S.G.A. Amateur Champions; 12 U.S.G.A. Public Links Champions; 2 Masters Titles; 1 PGA Championship Title, 1 LPGA Championship Title, and 1 Players Championship, this is definitely the home course where champions are made from the ASU men’s and women’s golf programs…and definitely not your typical university course. You can test your skills to see how you hold up on their training field…and tested you will be for sure. Note: Be sure you visit the golf shop and Trophy Room restaurant to view the Wall of Champions.

Golf in Arizona conjures images of the stereotypical desert-golf experience. In the Scottsdale area, it’s easy to find a course to play, the challenge lies in finding a course that is not a “desert golf course.” Fortunately, there’s a simple solution, the ASU Karsten Golf Course, centrally located just south of Scottsdale in Tempe. This classic Pete Dye design models itself after more traditional links-style golf courses found overseas with rolling hills, grassy mounds and plenty of pot bunkers. Add thick, lush fairways and several lakes to the equation and ASU Karsten could be considered a true desert oasis.

Whether you’re a novice golfer or well on your way to being a PGA TOUR star, ASU Karsten offers something for everyone. Playing from the 7,002-yard tips can be challenging as changes dropped the course’s par from 72 to 70. Already challenging enough for most weekend warriors, the par change is intended to test the game’s best up-and-coming players during the many high-caliber collegiate tournaments hosted at ASU. High-handicappers need not fret; ASU also offers three other sets of tees ranging from 4,765 yards to 6,288 yards. Many courses claim to be championship caliber; however Karsten proves it by hosting such respected tournaments as the collegiate Men’s and Women’s Pac-10 and NCAA and Championships, Phoenix Thunderbirds Collegiate Invitational, PING Invitational and U.S. Open Qualifying.

With one of the strongest collegiate golf programs in the country, the ASU Golf Team reaps the benefits of having a premier training facility conveniently located on the ASU Karsten grounds. This facility serves two objectives: for the Sun Devils to sharpen their games, and as a strong recruiting tool for new talent. It’s paid off in many ways as ASU was the first collegiate golf program to win both the Men’s and Women’s NCAA championships in the same season. They remain nationally ranked year after year, and continually produce All-American and future PGA and LPGA TOUR stars; including, LPGA Hall of Famer JoAnne Carner, the late Heather Farr, LPGA major winner Anna Nordqvist as well as PGA TOUR stars Billy Mayfair and Phil Mickelson.

The golf facility itself, located in the shadows of ASU’s Sun Devil Stadium, boasts an enormous clubhouse decked out with incredible golf gear as well as ASU-styled gear for diehard Sun Devil fans in the pro shop. The ASU Karsten Golf Shop has been selected as one of America’s “100 Best Golf Shops,” by Golf World Business. In addition to the award-winning golf shop, the clubhouse also features the Trophy Room restaurant and Sun Devil Patio, specializing in bold southwestern fare. The Trophy Room is not only a great place for golfers, but also a fantastic alternative for business folks, students and anyone looking to satisfy their hunger and enjoy great views of the golf course.

Even with all of the outstanding amenities at ASU Karsten, the friendly staff never misses an opportunity to assist – including giving tips about the course on the first tee. During your round, the beverage service will not disappoint. With two beverage carts on the course players are virtually guaranteed refreshments when needed. At the end of the round, the player service staff awaits your arrival and proudly engages in conversation while polishing your clubs. In general, it’s hard to find a staff that is more willing and eager to help than the staff at ASU Karsten.

ASU Karsten is the perfect place to enjoy great golf, mouth-watering food and friendly service at exceptional-value rates. The club also offers special rates for all faculty members and students of ASU. And, they have a terrific Senior Special for $50+tax and includes golf car. They offer special AZ resident rates throughout the year. One of their best offers is the Champions Club, which provides each member and one guest 50% off the posted guest rate every time you play. The Card is valid October 1st through May 31st. Visit their website for full details and times.
