The 54-hole RR Donnelly LPGA Founders Cup marks the return of the LPGA to Phoenix, the first time since 2009, when it tees off at JW Marriott Desert Ridge Resort’s Wildfire Golf Club on March 18.

Professional female golfers from across the country are participating in the prestigious tourney and forgoing tournament earnings to support a charity commitment of $1 million to the LPGA Foundation, its LPGA U.S. Golf Association Girls Golf program, and designated charities by the top-10 finishers.

The LPGA selected JW Marriott Desert Ridge Resort & Spa because of its two high caliber golf courses and ability for combining the two, along with the benefit of the event being held at the luxurious resort rich in amenities.

Wildfire Golf Club, a multi-award winning club including “Top 75 Golf Resorts in North America” by Condé Nast, “Best Courses You Can Play” by Golfweek, “Best Resort Course in the Southwest” by Travel & Leisure Golf and certification by the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program features two picturesque 18-hole courses designed by two of golf’s greatest legends – Arnold Palmer and Nick Faldo.

The RR Donnelly LPGA Founders Cup will feature a field of 132 players with a Pro-Am on Thursday, March 17, the first round of play on Friday, March 18 and final round played on Sunday, March 19. It will be nationally televised on The Golf Channel.

While the RR Donnelly LPGA Founders Cup aims to expose the Valley to some of the country’s best women golfers, the LPGA hopes to use the tournament to nurture the next generation of golfers.

“The LPGA has a rich history in the Phoenix area and we look forward to a very unique tournament that will honor the LPGA’s founders, showcase and celebrate today’s LPGA players and provide for the future of the game,” said LPGA Commissioner Mike Whan. “We’re doing something truly unique, not only in golf, but in sports.”

The relaxed atmosphere of the LPGA provides a great outing for families and avid golfers alike. Tickets can be purchased online at www.LPGAFounders.com or by calling 1-888-LPGATIX.
