AGA Golf Media Scholarship award winners

The Arizona Golf Foundation’s media committee recently announced the winners of the 2011 Golf Media Scholarship Essay Contest. The winners, listed below, were honored at the Arizona Golf Hall of Fame celebration November 21st at Gainey Ranch Golf Club in Scottsdale. 

The grand prize winner of a $2,500 scholarship is Emily Wakeford of Peoria and Centennial High School. Emily’s Essay was titled “How to Grow the Game of Golf”. Placing second and receiving a $1,500 scholarship is Tanner Field of Phoenix and Sandra Day O’Connor High School for his essay titled “Using Social Media to Grow the Game of Golf”.

The scholarships will be sent directly to an approved educational institution in the name of each recipient, as chosen by the winners. 

This was the inaugural year for the scholarship essay contest, created under the auspices of the Arizona Golf Foundation by a donation from Southwest Golf Media. Committee chair Cori Brett in making the announcement noted, “Entries came in from students all over Arizona. Their creative and thoughtful essays on ‘how to grow the game of golf’ tell us that the future of golf is in good hands.”
