The return of the Champions Tour to Desert Mountain’s Cochise course after an 11-year absence is a welcome opportunity, explained Desert Mountain COO and General Manager Bob Jones. The course hosted The Tradition, a major event on what was then known as the Seniors Tour, from 1989–2001. “Cochise is a remarkable venue in many ways—the pristine condition of the greens and the design of the course will offer challenging play that will be entertaining to watch. Plus, Cochise is considered to be one of the most picturesque courses in the world…by Jack Nicklaus, no less.”

Cochise is the second of Desert Mountain’s Nicklaus Signature courses. The 7,026-yard layout opened for play in 1988. It consistently ranks among the top 10 golf courses in Arizona in local and national golf writer polls.

Jones added that Desert Mountain’s hosting duties come at a meaningful time as the club prepares to celebrate its 25th anniversary following the tournament. “We are now a mature, member-owned club that has come a long way in terms of many more amenities and services than when we first hosted The Tradition,” he pointed out. “This is another milestone in our history and an opportunity to showcase to an international audience what makes this club so great.” The Golf Channel will televise the tournament live all four days, from November 1–4, to 85 million viewers around the world.

The Champions Tour estimates that the economic impact of the tournament to the Scottsdale-Phoenix area will be $12-$14 million primarily generated through hotel, transportation, dining, entertainment and retail purchases.

Local charitable organizations can also benefit from the event through the TICKETS Fore CHARITY program, an innovative fundraising platform to improve the quality of life in communities where the PGA Tour and Champions Tour events are held. The program offers registered 501(c)(3) public charities an opportunity to raise funds by promoting ticket sales to the Charles Schwab Cup Championship at no cost to the organization. One hundred percent of proceeds from each ticket benefits the selling organization. For information, visit www.schwabcuptfc.com or contact Kristi Lee Fowlks at kristifowlks@pgatourhq.com.
