Professional, Joel Kijowski, and amateur, Kevin Penner, took top honors in the 2012 Cleveland Golf / Srixon Pro-Scratch Invitational Presented by Club Car at Angel Park Golf Club, posting 60-64 for a 124 total score, the second lowest in tournament history. They finished two strokes ahead of the second-place team of BJ Brady and John Bucker. For their efforts, Kijowski earned $1,300 in cash and Mays earned $750 in Angel Park gift certificates. This is a repeat victory for Kijowski, who finished first in 2011 with a different amateur on his team. 

This year, the first Hole-in-One made during regular play in tournament history was carded by Justina Yu on the Palm Course’s 17th hole in the second round. Prior to Yu’s ace, the only other Hole-in-One was made by PGA TOUR professional Robert Gamez on the first hole of the Horse Race/Derby held each year on Angel Park’s Cloud Nine course.

In the event more than 80, two-person teams comprised of one professional and one scratch amateur, competed for a total prize purse of more than $17,000 in a 36-hole, stroke-play, one-better-ball format. The event draws teams of golf professionals and amateurs from all over the country as teams travel from California, Arizona, Washington and as far away as Hawaii and Florida to compete. Notable professionals such as Robert Gamez, David Ogrin, Scott Pierce, Jeremy Anderson and Ed Fryatt have also played in the past.

Following the first round of play, the “Cloud Nine Derby Shootout” kicked off. The field is limited to the top 15 teams that prepaid at registration prior to the first round. This fun-filled event within the event is part of local lore as the 1996 Cloud Nine Derby featured an exciting Hole-in-One by local touring professional Robert Gamez on the first hole. This year the team of Phil Reddy and Eric McCardle won the Derby.
