100 Holes of Golf

This month’s writing of the 19th hole is twofold. It is to let you know just one of the many things that your PGA Professionals in the valley do for this great game and to give you a chance to get involved like we do.

As many of you may know, I am involved with trying to find ways to give back to the game of golf. I have been a PGA Golf Professional for 25 years and have been very fortunate to have the successes that I have been afforded because of my profession. With this in mind, I have committed to participating in the 2011 PGA Golf Day; which means I will play 100 holes of golf in one day at the Trilogy Golf Club at Vistancia on June 1, 2011. Many of our Southwest Section PGA professionals from around the valley will be doing the same thing; all for a great cause. Just think about 100 holes in one day. We start at 5:30 in the morning and finish by 4:30 in the afternoon.

We will be involved in the PGA Golf Day, which was established in 2009 to raise money for Special Olympics Arizona and the SWSPGA Foundation. Special Olympics Arizona provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. If you have never attended the State tournament at Vistal Golf Club, you need to put this on your must do list for 2011. Additionally, the SWSPGA Foundation is the ten-year-old, non-profit arm of the Southwest Section PGA. The Foundation has generously contributed to the community and charities like the 9/11 Relief Fund, Habitat for Humanity, American Red Cross, and Phoenix Children’s Hospital.

If you want to help in this endeavor you can do so by sponsoring me, or one of the other local professionals, for $1, $2, $5 or more per hole. The goal of $200,000 and it is important to remember your pledge is 100% tax deductible.

To make your pledge, simply go to our website www.pgagolfday.com, click on my name or picture or your favorite participating professional and enter your pledge; it’s that easy!
