Trilogy at Vistancia instructor Joshua Doxtator receives “2012 Player Development Award”

Joshua Doxtator, Head Golf Professional at Trilogy Golf Club at Vistancia, Arizona’s only Golf Digest 5-star rated facility, has been honored with the “2012 Player Development Award” by his peers in the Southwest Section of the PGA, one of the nation’s largest Professional Golfers’ Association of America sections.

The award recognizes members who demonstrate extraordinary and exemplary contributions and achievements in the area of player development, as well as leadership in growing the game of golf. Doxtator will receive the award during the Southwest Section PGA Hall of Fame and President’s Dinner on Jan. 11th, 2013.

Doxtator was selected based upon his considerable work developing and implementing unique programs on behalf of Trilogy Golf Club at Vistancia to attract new players, retain existing players and help all golfers – regardless of skill level – receive more enjoyment from the sport.

Doxtator’s students run the gamut from new golfers and juniors to returning golfers and highly-competitive, nationally ranked players. And, his classes are so popular this year’s programs sold out (230 students) in less than 72 hours and currently have a 30-person waiting list to enroll.

Doxtator, who was named Top 50 Kids Teacher for 2011 (honorable mention) by U.S. Kids Golf, used this teaching philosophy to revolutionize the golf instruction programs at Trilogy Golf Club at Vistancia. As a result, the club has become a national leader in attracting and retaining players at every level. Classes for men, women and juniors are offered at a variety of times throughout the week to make participation easy for students, and each class focuses on specific areas of game improvements. But, just as important as fixing golf swings, the classes help students develop camaraderie and friendships that lead to a greater enjoyment of the game.

Another key to the programs’ success is the way Doxtator restructured golf instruction at Trilogy Golf Club at Vistancia to make it more akin to a gym membership. Students pay a modest monthly fee and may attend as many or as few classes as they like.

Ironically, Doxtator never had formal golf instruction growing up. He learned the game from his father and grandfather. Their tutelage…though casual…was very effective. Doxtator played varsity golf throughout his high school and college careers in St. Louis (Maryville University), and holds the Missouri state record for the lowest round in a high school match – 5-under-par, 31. He joined Trilogy Golf Club at Vistancia in 2004 and began teaching golf in 2006.
