Grayhawk Learning Center adds Kay Kennedy to the golf instruction team

Longtime golf professional, Kay Kennedy recently joined the instruction team at Grayhawk Learning Center.  She brings with her more than 30 years of experience in the golf world — including 25 years as a teaching professional, and five years competing against the best on the LPGA Tour.

In 2011, Kennedy made the move across Scottsdale to McCormick Ranch Golf Club from McDowell Mountain Golf Club, where she had been an instructor since 2006.  Prior to that, she taught out of Phoenix Country Club (1991-2006) as the club’s primary instructor molding the game of several collegiate golfers as well as a Canadian Tour player. From ’88 to ’91, Kennedy served as a teaching professional at various locations for the John Jacobs Golf School.  She spent a couple of years (’86 -’88) as a teaching professional at John’s Island Golf Club in Vero Beach, Florida.  And, she served as a teaching professional at Pinehurst Resort and St. John’s from ’76 to ’80.

Kennedy’s competitive playing career was in full swing from 1980 to 1986, when she racked up seven wins on the mini tour along with a second-place finish on the LPGA Tour.  She also made 10 appearances in the U.S. Women’s Open.

Formally educated at Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida, Kennedy earned a degree in Economics (1976) while playing on the school’s golf team, which notched a national championship during her four-year collegiate career, 1972-1976. However, Kennedy’s golf education would ultimately become the driving force for her life’s work.  Under the tutelage of revered instructors such as Jack Lumpkin, Jim Flick, Davis Love, Jr., Bob Toski, Jim Hardy, Mike LaBauve, John Jacobs and Shelby Futch, Kennedy absorbed the concepts and practices that she has been leveraging ever since as both a player and instructor.  She also attended the Dave Pelz Short Game School and the Jim Hardy Swing Plane School.

Located at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, AZ., the Grayhawk Learning Center was originally operated by the golf commentating team of Peter Kostis and Gary McCord.  They have since turned over the reins to the remaining instructors who — like Kennedy —navigate between dual roles as players and instructors.  With two separate practice areas and a magnificent clubhouse, Kennedy and her students will find ample space as well as the special brand of casual luxury that defines the Grayhawk experience.
