First Tee of Phoenix youth golfer, Miranda Reyes, earned chance to play in Nature Valley First Tee Open at Pebble Beach

The First Tee of Phoenix Executive Director Hugh Smith announced that Miranda Reyes, a First Tee of Phoenix member, was selected to play in the 10th Nature Valley First Tee Open at Pebble Beach, an official Champions Tour event, held September 27-29th.

Reyes was one of 81 participants representing 54 chapters of The First Tee, ages 14 to 18, who were selected by a national panel of judges that evaluated participants’ playing ability and comprehension of the life skills and character education learned through their involvement with The First Tee. Nearly 150 applications were submitted.

Miranda shot -6 (67, 71) and missed the cut by three shots, however she represented First Tee of Phoenix in an exceptional performance and had a lifetime experience.

Michelle Xie representing The First Tee of Silicon Valley and Champions Tour professional Kirk Triplett clinched the Pro-Junior title at the Nature Valley First Tee Open at Pebble Beach finishing 18 under. Triplett also successfully defended his title in the event.

The First Tee of Phoenix is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization created by The Thunderbirds for the purpose of providing affordable access to golf and golf learning facilities for young people in Maricopa County from all walks of life, particularly those who otherwise might not have an opportunity to play.   The organization offers classes, special monthly family events and tournaments throughout the year.  With 11 locations in the Valley – South Mountain, Desert Mirage, Papago, Longbow, Falcon Dunes, Lone Tree and now all City of Phoenix courses – The First Tee of Phoenix programming sites serve as a place for participants to learn valuable life skills and character lessons through creative activities and instructional programs that incorporate the fundamental teachings of golf.
