Arizona’s leading junior golf program, the Junior Golf Association of Arizona (JGAA) held its annual awards banquet to honor members and thank family and friends for their contributions and support. The ceremony marked the end of the association’s 30th Anniversary celebrations.

This memorable event, held November 16 at Moon Valley Country Club, recognized Arizona’s most talented juniors for their excellence both on and off the course, along with a tribute to Executive Director, Tom Cunningham for his 20 year contribution to the organization, as Scott McNevin assumes his role at the end of the year.

“The JGAA will be around for decades to come, but 30 years is an important milestone that we couldn’t have achieved without the support of the community, parents, kids, sponsors and our board members,” said Tom

Cunningham, JGAA Executive Director. “The annual awards banquet is an incredible event that honors our kids, who are champions in golf and in life.”

Awards were bestowed to each age division for the following honors: Player of the Year, Sportsmanship, Most Improved and Hole-in-One recipients. Player of the Year honors for the Girls Championship division went to Alisa Snyder and for the Boys Championship division, Hayden Webb.

The following represents the remaining JGAA Player of the Year Award Winners: Boys and Girls Championship – Hayden Webb and Alisa Snyder

• Boys and Girls 15-18 – Ben Harden and Sarah Eversman • Boys and Girls 13-14 – J.J. Gresco and Emily Mahar • Boys and Girls 11-12 – Dominic Wade and Ashley Menne • Boys and Girls 10 & Under – Daniel Thompson and Abbey Schutte.

The JGAA also announced its Sportsmanship Award winners with Katie Dunaway and Andrew MacMillan exemplifying golf etiquette. “A big part of the JGAA is not just teaching the game of golf, but rather instilling values of respect and integrity providing a strong foundation for their future,” said Scott McNevin, JGAA Assistant Executive Director.

Most improved golfers include Megan Ohland and Race Carter, both of whom made incredible progress to lower their scoring average through practice, coaching and participation of JGAA events. Many others graced the stage and raised an award, as the JGAA achieved another successful year on many levels.

“Every year is meaningful, but 2013 proved to be significant. We saw past alumni and PGA pros paying homage, a 30 day social media campaign highlighting our history and a successful 100-hole Marathon event that raised more than $88,000 for JGAA,” Scott McNevin said. “I’m honored to continue to serve this tremendous organization and look forward to many years ahead.”
