NBC Sports Radio Phoenix “For Love of the Game” celebrating their 10th Year on the air!

The very first broadcast under the title Golf AZ Radio originated just a mere ten years ago on the balcony of the Ahwatukee Country Club on a Saturday evening from 6pm-7pm on KKNT am 960! A lot has changed since that day and time! After several different radio stations(1100 KFNX,1260 KBSZ,1440 KAZG), several different days, several different locations, and with several different time slots. The pieces then came together with a title sponsor and a permanent home! Those were not the only changes but the number of days and hours to broadcast went from one day a week to five days a week for two hours, unheard of in the golf radio industry!

“For love of the Game” is the only daily produced live Golf Show in the nation! Several experts thought the show would not last, not enough content! Wrong! Golfsmith, “Any thing for Golf” believed in the Radio Show and became the title sponsor and the Chandler location became the permanent home.

Golfsmith’s goal was to help grow the game of golf! With Golfsmith’s funding and edict, it allowed the following organizations, Arizona Golf Association (AGA), Arizona Woman’s Golf Association (AWGA), Junior Golf Association (JGAA), Southwest Section of the PGA (SWPGA), and the Cactus & Pine Association (Superintendents) to become regular contributors and a voice on the radio show without any cost! When combined these groups truly are the life blood of Arizona golf!

Each and every radio show has their cast of Characters/Host and Co-hosts and this show is no different!

Meet the Host, Uncle Buck (Mike Rafferty) the Business man and named after the movie Uncle Buck, Co-host, the Shot dog (Danny Schott) historian of the game and former member of the PGA, Co-host, the Pohlcat (Danny Joe Pohl), the 2X winner on the PGA TOUR, Vardon Trophey winner, Ryder Cup member, tied for 1st at the 1982 Master’s, and ace reliever Jeff Heisner, former ABC 15 Sports Anchor!

Tune in to hear a different take on golf and listen to interviews with the biggest names in the game like Palmer, Nicklaus, Player! They might even throw in some humor, laugh’s, prizes, golf, and equipment for free!

The final piece of the puzzle came in the form of an invitation from NBC Sports Radio Phoenix am 1060 to join them as their morning Drive time Show! The management team felt there was enough general sports options in the Valley and knew the State of Arizona is a golf destination! The show has moved the listener needle and is looking forward to building on their success!

Finally, in honor of the this event, Golfsmith has issued a $10 off Discount Card that can be used by all their loyal listeners and followers. Please feel free to cut out the card and/or take the Arizona Golfer newspaper to your local Golfsmith store to use on your next purchase.
