Sandpines Golf Links changes name to Florence Golf Links

Florence (Ore.) favorite under new ownership, expected to offer best experience yet

OB Sports Golf Management announced that Sandpines Golf Links officially changed its name to Florence Golf Links, on May 25th, 2018. Celebrating its 25thyear of serving the Northwest golf community, Florence Golf Links kicks off its next quarter century with a new ownership group, and a renewed commitment to offering its guests the first-class experience that has made it one of the top golf courses in the state.

“We are very happy to be located in such an amazing community like Florence, and we think it makes great sense to have our city’s name reflected in the name of the golf course,” said Rick Reed, Florence Golf Links General Manager. “We are confident that guests will quickly recognize that the changes seen at the club are not in name alone. Clubhouse and course improvements are already under way, which will ultimately strengthen the property and the experience for both the local and regional players.”

“The players that have historically enjoyed the experience and setting at Florence Golf Links will only find more things to be excited about moving forward,” said Ryan Whitney, Senior Vice President of Operations at OB Sports. “Oregon Coast golf continues to grow in prominence and prestige and we look to be a major reason in the advancement of that reputation.”

Located on the Central Oregon coastline, 60 miles west of Eugene and 70 miles north of Bandon, Florence Golf Links opened in 1993 to much fanfare, earning Golf Digest’s “Best New Public Course in America.” Designed by renowned architect Rees Jones, the par 72 layout plays up to 6,931 yards from the back tees, and is a true test of the game to golfers of all levels. The sand-base golf course allows for excellent year-round conditions.

The stunning track features six holes played through the coastal pines, six holes with water features and six holes over grass covered dunes. Collectively, both nines incorporate the beautifully rugged canvas that is the Central Oregon Coast. The outward nine is sculpted out of a forest of towering pines and majestic crystal blue lakes reminiscent of those found on the Monterey Peninsula. The inward nine brings you back to the soul of the game with its traditional Links style and rolling dunes from tee to green.

Local golf associations have also fallen for Florence Golf Links, hosting their respective championships like the Pacific Northwest Golf Association’s 32nd annual Men’s Mid-Amateur in 2016, and the PNGA Boys and Girls Junior Championships in 2017. And, with an array of Stay & Play packages offered by six local hotels, Florence Golf Links has the ability to host any event from across the country.

The 9,000 square foot clubhouse is home to “The Grill & Lounge,” where players have noted, “The food is as good as the golf!” Featuring breathtaking views of the golf course and fresh, local cuisine, your Florence Golf Links experience can be enjoyed well beyond the final putt. Additionally, the club boasts a fully stocked Golf Shop offering the latest in golf equipment, apparel, and accessories for both men and women; and an event space that can accommodate groups, gatherings and celebrations from five to 55.
