The ASU Karsten Golf Course hosted the annual Joanne Winter Arizona Silver Belle Championship December 28-30th. The Joanne Winter Arizona Silver Belle Championship is a leading national junior tournament pairing girls and women 13 - 23 years of age in a 54-hole stroke play championship. Past Silver Belle champions include Danielle Ammaccapane (1984), Staci Konz (1988) and Janine Fellows (2009).

Joanne Winter, one of 14 original Master Professionals in the LPGA’s Teaching and Club Professional Division, founded the Arizona Silver Belle Championship Golf Tournament in 1971. She was the recipient of the 1995 Ellen Griffin Rolex Award, given annually by the LPGA T&CP Division to the individual who has demonstrated in their teachings spirit, love, and dedication during a lifetime of service to the game of golf. During Winter’s 30-plus years of teaching, she worked with students of all levels, including LPGA pros such as Jerilyn Britz, Robin Walton, Alice Miller and Julie Stanger Pyne. She was also a noted lecturer and participated in many seminars conducted by the National Golf Foundation, the LPGA and the PGA of America. In 1969, she was named LPGA Teacher of the Year.

“We’re excited to host the Joanne Winter Arizona Silver Belle Championship,” said ASU Karsten Director of Golf Daryl Crawford. “We are very proud of our long-standing relationship with this celebrated young women’s golf event and look forward to another fantastic tournament.”

The ASU Karsten Golf Course is a 7,002-yard, par-70 classic Pete Dye design reminiscent of a Scottish links course. Since opening in 1989, ASU Karsten has attracted the attention of prominent NCAA golf events and coveted tournaments such as the Phoenix Thunderbirds and PING Invitational. Managed by Lyon Golf, the ASU Karsten Golf Course is also home to the Arizona State University men’s and women’s NCAA golf teams, both multiple national championship winners.
