Blackstone Country Club to sponsor fundraising tournament to benefit Singleton Moms

Goal is to raise minimum of $25,000 for first year

A golf tournament to benefit Singleton Moms, a Valley non-profit organization that supports single parents who are battling cancer, will be held March 21 at Blackstone Country Club in Peoria.

“Four of us played at a charity golf event for the organization last year and we thought it was a wonderful cause,” explained Jane Dibbern, a Blackstone Country Club member and the tournament’s organizer. “We liked the idea that the money stays here in the Valley and really helps those families that are struggling.”

Singleton Moms was founded in 2006 by two Valley women who watched their childhood friend, Michelle Singleton, succumb to cancer. The organization offers emotional, financial and domestic support to single mothers or fathers in Maricopa County who have children living at home, are receiving cancer-related treatments and are in need of financial and/or household assistance.

“This is the tournament’s first year so we’ve set our minimum fundraising goal at $25,000, which I think we’ll exceed,” Dibbern said.

Open to the public, the tournament can accommodate 25 teams of four players each. Each team must consist of either all ladies or any combination of men and ladies. Cost to enter is $125. Registration and a continental breakfast are scheduled from 7-8:30 a.m. Putting and bucket shot competitions are from 7:30-8:45 a.m. The event gets underway with a shotgun start at 9 a.m.

Premier sponsors are Wilhelm Automotive and Audi Peoria, will provide a hole-in-one car.

A silent auction and prize drawings of items donated by local businesses and other organizations will be held throughout the day. Items include rounds of golf at Pine Canyon and Forest Highlands golf courses in Flagstaff, and The Rim Club and Chaparral Pines in Payson; Arizona Cardinals game tickets, sports memorabilia and other products and services.

For $50, tournament players can purchase a passport to participate in all special contests including the putting and bucket competitions, hole-in-one, beat the pro, closest to the pin and others.
