Chandler student selected as Ambassador, organizing golf ball drop and outing

Purchase a $10 golf ball and get a chance to win $500 in fundraising helicopter ball drop

Chandler resident and Basha Elementary Student, Baily Strauss is organizing a benefit golf outing and Golf Ball Drop to raise money for an upcoming People to People Ambassador program.

Founded in 1956, by President Dwight D. Eisenhower, People To People Ambassador programs provide educational and goodwill opportunities around the globe. Eisenhower believed that if people from different cultures could come together in peace and friendship, so eventually would countries. Since its founding, People to People has launched many international programs, including Sister Cities and Project HOPE. In addition, eight U.S. Presidents have served as the honorary chairman of People to People International.

100% of the proceeds from this event will be utilized to offset tuition for Arizona Student Ambassador - Baily Strauss. Baily and 39 other ambassadors will be traveling to Australia in June, 2011. Items on their travel agenda include helping meet a local need through a group service project, working with a marine biologist while experiencing the Great Barrier Reef, learning ancient traditions of the Aboriginal people, and visitation of world heritage sites, to name a few.

The primary fundraising event will be the Benefit Golf Ball Drop. Numbered golf balls will be dropped from a helicopter and the golf ball that ends up in the hole (or closest to the pin) will win $500 in cash.

Cost to enter the ball drop is just $10 per golf ball and balls can be purchased on-line at www.longbowgolf.com/ambassador. The ball drop will be held on April 3, 2011 at Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, however you do not be present to win.

“People to People Student Ambassadors are carefully interviewed and evaluated before their acceptance, and I am honored to have been selected to represent Arizona. Personally, I am looking forward to broadening my perspectives and gaining a better understanding of the world. Upon my return, I plan to share my experience with schools and civic clubs in our community as well as on my travel blog,” stated Baily.
