Mark J. Black named Head Golf Professional at Encanterra Country Club

Encanterra Country Club has named PGA Master Professional Mark J. Black as Head Golf Professional. Black, who also is a member of Encanterra Country Club, is the former director of the PGA Golf Management Program at Arizona State University and is one of only 300 Master Professionals out of more than 28,000 PGA of America members.

Prior to directing the PGA Golf Management Program at ASU, Black was the General Manager of The Fortress, one of the top resort golf facilities in Michigan. He also was the owner and operator of Willow Brook Golf Club in Byron, Michigan and Head Golf Professional of Inverness Country club in Chelsea, Michigan.

Black holds a Bachelor of Science in Education from Central Michigan University where he also was a four-year member of the university’s golf team and was the 1977 MAC Long-Drive Champion. Later, he competed in a number of PGA TOUR and Champions Tour events. In 2005 he was awarded the Bill Strausbaugh Award and in 2006 the Horton Smith Award by the PGA of America.

Encanterra’s exceptional Tom Lehman-designed championship golf course was named among the Best New Private Courses in the nation by GOLF Magazine, Golfweek and LINKS Magazine when it opened in 2008.
