The United States Golf Association (USGA) announced Forest Highlands Golf Club in Flagstaff, Arizona, as the host site of the 2014 U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship. The dates of the championship are July 21-26, 2014.

“The USGA is eager to bring the 66th U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship to Forest Highlands Golf Club and Flagstaff,” said Thomas J. O’Toole Jr., USGA vice president and championship committee chairman. “The Meadow Course will be a tough test for the players. They are sure to enjoy the championship environment and the visit to northern Arizona.”

This will be the third USGA championship held at Forest Highlands Golf Club and the first on the Meadow Course, which was designed by Tom Weiskopf and opened in 1999. The most recent USGA competition was in 2006 on the Canyon Course, when Dave Womack defeated Ryan Hybl, 1 up, in the U.S. Mid-Amateur. The Meadow Course was the companion stroke-play qualifying venue.

In 1996, Shane McMenamy defeated future PGA Tour winner Charles Howell III in 19 holes in the U.S. Junior Amateur final.

“Forest Highlands Golf Club is very excited to host the 2014 Girls’ Junior Championship on our Meadow Course,” said Larry Appleby, the club’s General Manager. “It is an honor and a privilege to showcase the best female junior amateur players of today and we are proud to continue our affiliation with the USGA and amateur golf. We are confident our venue will provide an unforgettable experience both in golf and in hospitality.”

The U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship was first played in 1949 and is open to female amateur golfers who have not reached the age of 18 prior to the close of the championship and who hold a USGA Handicap Index® no higher than 18.4.

The 2012 U.S. Girls’ Junior was conducted July 16-21 at Lake Merced Golf Club in Daly City, CA, while the 2013 championship will be played at Sycamore Hills Golf Club in Fort Wayne, IN, July 22-27.
