If you’ve been in the Valley of the Sun for any time, and you love the game, most likely you’ve had a round at Las Sendas Golf Club in the East Valley. This Robert Trent Jones, Jr. design captured the attention of many golfers throughout the Valley as well as offering one of the first Master Plan Golf Course Communities’ in Arizona designed by Jones.
Las Sendas opened to the public in February of 1995 and was immediately acclaimed by avid golfers and sports writers becoming the 12th most challenging and one of the top 100 courses in the nation, according to two ZAGAT surveys.
A demanding desert-style layout winding through the Usery Mountains in east Mesa, this upscale course is setting the standard for customer service in the Greater Phoenix area. Las Sendas’s spectacular views of the Phoenix metropolis help soften the demand of managing your game through the rugged terrain, nearly 1,800 feet above the desert floor.
Las Sendas is not a course contrived with artifice, decor, or railroad ties, nor is it a target course. It is a strategic course, so learn the preferred route from tee to green. It is a nature walk through the desert, attracting you with beauty and challenging you with shot options.
The Club is located in the northeast corner of Mesa in the prestigious community of Las Sendas. This award-winning Tuscan community winds its way through the foothills of the Usery Mountains, offering some of the best views in the Valley, including Superstitions and Red Mountain.
In November 2009, Lloyd and Wayne McBean, together with Ken Elias and Ian Warrack, all from Calgary, Alberta Canada, and Phoenix native John Musil, purchased the Las Sendas Golf Club. Their subsequent plan was to remodel the facilities, pave the cart paths, and provide the necessary improvements expected in a world-class golf facility.
Within 19 days, the group sold all of the investment units and funded the entire project. Las Sendas Golf Club is now a debt-free facility with both local and international ownership.
Construction of new cart paths, newly renovated clubhouse and proshop, three new restaurants opening January 15, 2010, new on-course restrooms is now completed and receiving rave reviews from local communities. The 2nd Capital Improvement Plan is in the conceptual stage and includes additional banquet facilities, men’s and ladies locker room facilities, private card rooms, member’s health club and a new patio dining deck.
The clubhouse, now offering three themed restaurants will satisfy discriminating palates. Bogey’s Steakhouse features Humphrey Bogart memorabilia, while offering fine dining with a Southwest flair and is open to the public at 5pm, Tuesday through Saturday. Reservations are recommended by calling 480.396.4000.
The Rusty Putter Grille offers great food from breakfast through dinner and everything in between and operates seven days a week.
Viewpoint Patio will take your breath away with the best views in the Valley. The patio includes fire and water features in addition to lighting on the mountainside landscape, as well as on the desert floor next to the ninth green. Perfect for sunset libations continuing on to dinner.
Las Sendas Golf Club to go private. The demographics and population of the Las Sendas community will support a private golf club, therefore Las Sendas is going private when it seems most private clubs are opening to the public. The new ownership has a completely different business plan than the traditional private clubs. First and most importantly, Las Sendas is debt free! They carry no mortgage and all improvements and renovations are done with their own working capital. There is no time frame or financial requirements to meet during the process of taking the club private.
Las Sendas Golf Club will become completely private, once they have 350 members and they will cap membership at 450. The new owners estimate this happening within the next four to five years. In the meantime, the club will remain semi private with tee times available for public play. The new restaurants will remain open to the public even after the club is totally private, which is a nice asset to the community.
During the month of January 2010, 100% refundable golf memberships are being offered for only $29,900 and prices will increase by $1000 with each new five members added. For more information on memberships, contact Lloyd McBean, Executive Director of Las Sendas Golf Club at 480.396.4000, ext. 111 or via email lmcbean@lassendas.com.
