World Golf Championships-Accenture Match Play Championship generates nearly $1.35 million for charity in 2013

Tournament celebrates by extending special, “Power of 10” Twitter-only ticket offer

Tournament officials announced that the 2013 World Golf Championships-Accenture Match Play Championship, which took place at The Golf Club at Dove Mountain in February, 2013, generated $1,348,156 for charity. Since the Accenture Match Play Championship moved to Tucson in 2007, more than $10.1 million has been raised for area charities as a result of the tournament, which annually brings together the world’s top 64 golfers in a unique head-to-head match-play competition.  As part of the elite World Golf Championships, their announcement brings the total charitable contributions from the global series to nearly $43.6 million since it began in 1999.

To celebrate topping the $10-million milestone for Tucson charities, the Accenture Match Play Championship is extending a unique ticket offer, available only through its newly launched Twitter feed: @WGC_Accenture.  Fans of the event who follow the tournament’s Twitter feed will receive behind-the-scenes updates and offers leading up to the event – February 17-23, 2014 – including the “Power of 10” Promotion. For only $35, fans can purchase a Saturday ticket and receive a free ticket for Championship Sunday, as well as a $10 voucher good for on-site merchandise.  The offer is valued at $80. is good through December 31, 2013.

Proceeds from the Accenture Match Play Championship primarily benefit The Tucson Conquistadores youth charities, including The First Tee of Tucson, Boys and Girls Clubs, YMCA, Pima County Special Olympics and the Southern Arizona Community Sports Center at Curtis Park. With approximately 1,500 local youth participants, The First Tee of Tucson is a non-profit organization that strives to promote sportsmanship, character development and life enhancing values to youth of all backgrounds, ages 5-17.  Since 1962, The Tucson Conquistadores have contributed more than $27 million to youth organizations. 

The Accenture Match Play Championship returns to The Golf Club at Dove Mountain in Marana, Arizona, February 17-23, 2014, when American Matt Kuchar will defend his title against the top 64 players in the Official World Golf Ranking. Kuchar won his first World Golf Championships title by defeating 2012 event champion Hunter Mahan 2 and 1 in the Championship Match.  Kuchar never played the 18th hole in any of his six matches en route to victory.
